Everyone knows May brings flowers. May also brings…Mother’s Day! If you are wondering how to celebrate the mothers in your life in a special way this year, look no further. The best part is, these three ideas not only celebrate the mothers in your life, they also give back to families in our community at the same time. It’s a win-win this Mother’s Day!

1. Give a Gift to the Collaboration in Honor of a Mother in your Life.

This year, when you give a gift to the Collaboration for Early Childhood you can give in honor of the quiet heroes who play an important role in the lives of our children. These heroes are teachers, systems leaders, neighbors, babysitters, caregivers and…mothers! By giving a gift of any size, you can honor the mothers or mother figures in your life with a certificate that you can email to them. They will also have their name included in a public display at our office, located at 171 S. Oak Park Avenue as a part of our spring campaign, ‘Hope is in the Air.’

2. Share Our Baby Bundle Giveaway Event with a New or Expecting Oak Park or River Forest Mom!

This Mother’s Day, the Collaboration for Early Childhood, in partnership with Home Visiting Programs, will be giving out baby bundles at the West Cook YMCA. What’s a baby bundle? It’s a bunch of goodies for moms and babies, including onesies, wipes, books, bibs and more. Special thanks to Monica’s Skincare Boutique and the Oak Park Public Library for their contributions to the bundles! So please share this opportunity with the new and expecting moms in your Oak Park and River Forest network! Oh, did we mention the bundles will include diapers? That leads us to…

3. Donate Diapers!

The Collaboration is receiving diaper donations to include in our Mother’s Day Baby Bundles as well as to distribute to our community partners working with families. You can donate monetarily for the purchase of diapers by selecting ‘Diaper Drive’ from the program donation area of our donation form. We would also welcome boxes of diapers. To coordinate a drop off in Oak Park, please reach out to Wendy, our Community Engagement Coordinator.

Thank you to all the mothers out there. Thank you for being tough, steadfast, and all-powerful. Words cannot express how much we appreciate the role you play in keeping our community’s children healthy, safe, and loved. We couldn’t do our work without you, and we are here for you whenever you need a little extra support or fellowship. Happy Mother’s Day.
