If your child will be five years old by September 1, 2024 then kindergarten is right around the corner! Starting kindergarten is a big and exciting step for all our five-year-olds and their families. Whether you’re planning on homeschooling or on enrolling your child in a Montessori school, a parochial school, a district school, or something in-between, there are things you can do right now to start preparing. First, be sure to mark your calendar for two events:

  • Beginning this year, all district 97 families, including homeowners, will be required to submit residency documentation annually. Click here to view the required documentation.
  • You can find more details on District 97’s registration page.

What is Kindergarten Readiness?

There are four key aspects of child development that parents can nurture to help ensure their children are ready for kindergarten. The Collaboration refers to these as the 4 Building Blocks of Kindergarten Readiness. They are:

  • Social & Emotional Development
  • Self-Care, Physical Well-Being, & Motor Skills
  • Language & Communication Skills
  • Cognitive Skills

You can learn much more about what these Building Blocks of Kindergarten Readiness look like and how to nurture them in your own child on our kindergarten webpage.
